Undoubtedly schooling is a process and to be educated every individual has to go through it. But through the poem, the poet wants to convey the message that parents should not take away the joy and freedom of their children by sending them to a dull and activity-less schools. Students do not learn or enjoy in such schools where teaching is done through lectures and explanations only.

The presented poetry piece "The School Boy" has been composed by William Blake. The poet has drawn the authentic picture of a school going boy, who is not happy going to school. The poem can be summarized in following ways: -

*Morning wish - William Blake says that the child says that he wished loves to rise in a summer morning as a bird does. The birds sing on every tree, hunt-men blow their horns and bird chirp in melodious sound. He wishes to enjoy it and accompany them.

*Snatching pleasure - The poet says that the boy is sad because he has to go to school and it snatches his joy. So he has to spend the day without pleasure in dismay. To sit for hours in school classroom is dreary and droopy.

*Captive - The school boy do not like to study. He feels like a little bird in the cage who has forgotten to sing. The bird wants to fly high in the sky but the cage prevents it.

*Request to parents - Finally the school boy asks his parents that he is just like a bud who cannot blossom in lack of freedom, air and sun. Study is an obstacle that certainly drives him away from pleasure and growth. Therefore he requests to his parents to make him free to enjoy childhood.
